- Super Bowl LX viewership trending down; 1/3 of Americans say they will not watch
More Americans are rooting for the Seattle Seahawks than the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. The most recent Seton Hall Sports Poll finds that 27 percent of Americans support the Seahawks in contrast to only 15 percent for the Patriots. Among self-described NFL fans, the near 2:1 ratio stands with 38 percent rooting for Seattle and 20 percent for New England. The pattern continues among self-described sports fans at 36 percent for the Seahawks and 19 percent for the Patriots and among self-described avid sports fans 47 percent vs. 20 percent, respectively. In no subgroup do more than one in five pick New England.
Fans are much clearer about their favorite compared to last year when the Kansas City Chiefs were within 3 percent of the favored Philadelphia Eagles (26% to 29%). As one might expect, the match-up of two coastal teams who have not been to a Super Bowl in six years (New England) or 11 years (Seattle) increases the level of those who “just want to watch a good game” (26%) or “no opinion” (32%).
“This may be a new generation of post-Tom Brady era fans who are surprised that the Patriots are returning to the Super Bowl and miss the regular appearance of the Chiefs and Mahomes,” said Charles Grantham, Director of the Center for Sport Management and the Seton Hall Sports Poll at the Seton Hall Stillman School of Business. “The return of the winners of six Super Bowls may also drive people to the Seahawks. Although the Patriots are a great story, Belichick and Brady are the first things people outside New England think. The real issue is whether fans outside of the home markets will join and stay with Super Bowl LX.”

Home Alone or with Family? Where people watch Super Bowl LX
Nearly three-quarters (74%) of those with plans to watch the Super Bowl say they will be doing so from the comfort of their own homes. Forty-two percent say they will watch at home with immediate family, 24 percent at home alone, and eight percent report plans to host a party at their house. Additionally, 15 percent say they will be going to a friend or family member’s house to watch the game.
Among age groups, 18- to 34-year-olds are the most likely to say they plan to go to someone else’s house (21%). Those 55+ are most likely to report watching at home alone (49%) or with family (30%). Meanwhile, those 35 to 54 are hosting the most parties (11%).
Pizza and Wings, then Salsa — Superior Super Bowl Food
As some NFL advertisers openly joke, the Super Bowl may arguably be a front for selling food. Americans’ favorite food to eat while watching the Super Bowl is pizza (49%), while its closest competitor is quite possibly the most iconic Super Bowl food, chicken wings (44%). Rounding out the top three is chips and salsa (36%). This new question by the Poll sparked interest among respondents as every option received double digit percentages including meatballs (12%), the lowest of the ten options.

Bad Bunny Gains Five Points in 90 days!
This Poll reports that 37 percent of Americans, 44 percent of NFL fans, and 51 percent of those aged 18 to 34 are excited for Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny to perform at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. This is a five-point increase in nearly every demographic from an earlier Seton Hall Sports Poll conducted in October 2025 where 32 percent of Americans, 38 percent of NFL fans, and 44 percent of those aged 18 to 34 expressed excitement.
“Bad Bunny is the most popular musician on the planet according to Spotify and he recently won multiple Grammys including the coveted Album of the Year,” said Daniel Ladik, Ph.D., Methodologist of the Seton Hall Sports Poll and Associate Marketing Professor in the Stillman School of Business. “The Super Bowl is the most watched event in the U.S., and the NFL clearly wants to leverage his popularity both here and to the growing NFL international audience abroad.”

Will the Super Bowl LX Viewership Drop?
Multiple signals in advance of the Super Bowl suggest the viewership number may dip compared to last year, even with Nielsen’s TV measurement changes around big data and out-of-home viewing.
The first signal of a potential dip is the AFC conference game between the Broncos and the Patriots, which was the least watched since 2022. The NFC conference game of the Los Angeles Rams at Seattle, later in primetime, featured an even lower rating than the AFC game. And note, both games were played on a day with one-third of the country homebound due to a massive snowstorm.
Second is the lack of star power in this matchup. Despite Drake Maye’s MVP caliber season, these are not Tom Brady’s Patriots. This will also be only the second time since 2020 that Kansas City is not playing in the Super Bowl. No Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, or Taylor Swift effect can be counted on to raise ratings for this forthcoming Super Bowl.
Third, this Poll finds that approximately one-third of Americans across the three age demographics of 18-34 (33%), 35-54 (34%), and 55+ (33%) indicate they will not be watching Super Bowl LX.
On which device, if at all, will you be watching 2026 NFL Super Bowl LX?

Previous Seton Hall Sports Polls reported that the number of people planning to watch the Super Bowl steadily increased from 58 percent in 2021 to 83 percent for Super Bowl LIX in 2025. The 65 percent of Americans who say they will watch on Sunday remains a solid number and seven points higher than five years ago for Super Bowl LV, but it may be the case that we do not see a year-over-year increase in overall viewership.
