First American Reprint of Glaspell Novel

Congratulations and many thanks to Professor Kevin McMullen and his “Editing and the Publishing Industry” class at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prof. McMullen and his students researched and annotated Glaspell’s 1915 novel, Fidelity, then got it published by Saluki Publishing, the trade imprint of Southern Illinois University.

Over the course of a semester, the students read the novel and then researched and wrote a critical introduction and annotations, with Prof. McMullen’s instruction. Marcia Noe served as informal advisor for the project, and she and Linda Ben-Zvi contributed cover blurbs. The students are all listed as co-editors of the volume, and the front cover, based on the cover of the first edition, was designed by student Edison Geiler. What a great accomplishment for Prof. McMullen and his students, and a huge step forward for Susan Glaspell studies in this country.  And as a result, Fidelity is back in print in the U.S. (other than cheap, print-on-demand copies online) for the first time since 1915. It’s an important, beautiful novel, and we hope professors will now consider adopting it for their courses.
