On April 6, Viktor Orban, already serving out his third consecutive term, won the Hungarian parliamentary election in a landslide, a victory that will put Hungary on uncertain footing with the EU and other allies, Reuters reports. The mercurial leader of Hungary’s center-right populist party Fidesz, Orban has previously drawn the ire of European heads of state and EU commissioners alike for his abrasive rhetoric on gender and immigration issues.

Prince Hamzah of Jordan Renounces Royal Titles

According to the Associated Press, Jordan’s Prince Hamzah announced his decision to abdicate his right to the throne in a statement published on his personal Twitter page. BBC News recounts Hamzah’s reasoning behind this monumental decision, stating that his “personal convictions” were not in line with the “modern methods of our institutions.” This announcement comes after Hamzah publicly apologized to his brother, King Abdullah II, in March 2022, for his previous comments criticizing his rule.

2022 Global Ties U.S. National Meeting Addresses Cyber Defense, U.S. Infrastructure

The 2022 hybrid Global Ties National Meeting was held in Arlington, VA. From March 16 -19, members of the United States State Department and the Global Ties community discussed the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) pivot in 2020-2021 towards online exchange.  In addition, members of the State Departments’ cyber defense and diversity, equity, and inclusion tasks forces spoke about what each department is doing to protect the United States’s infrastructure and President Biden’s Executive Order 13985.
