Mission statement, outcomes, and rubrics

Mission Statement for First-Year Writing.  This is the mission statement for College English I and Basic Skills informally adopted by writing instructors in 1998 at Seton Hall.

Outcomes Statement for First-Year Writing.  This is a series of statements that captures what the English Department expects students to be able to do by the end of their first year, after taking both 1201 and 1202.

Rubrics Used in First-Year Writing.  Both a holistic rubric and a set of primary trait rubrics are available for evaluating individual papers.  You may prefer working with the abbreviated primary trait rubric.

WPA Outcomes Statement.  This is the official statement of the Council of Writing Program Administrators statement describing the common knowledge, skills, and attitudes sought by first-year composition programs in American postsecondary education.
