A, B, and C Papers

The following are unaltered student essays from late in the semester that
the directors in the English Department have decided are examples of A, B,
and C papers. All of them deserve to pass. That is, they all deal with
two or more sources in an attempt to come to some reasonably complex
understanding of a question with which they engage the reader. Each essay
receives comments from two or three professors who point out the strengths
and weaknesses of each.

Instructors have somewhat different criteria for evaluating writing,
but they are broadly similar. Here are two different rubrics:
