PROFESSIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
a. Seton Hall University Library

  • Served on the Search Committee for Acquisition Librarian (May – September, 2022).
  • Served on the Library’s EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) Committee (2011 – present).
  • Served as Chair of Library Educational Policy Committee (2013 – 2017).
  • Served as Chair of the Library Faculty Assembly (2007 – 2009).
  • Served as Electronic Resources Librarian (2015 – present). Responsible for (1) migrating data from Voyager’s system to the new OCLC WorldShare Servies, (2) trouble shooting issues relating to the transition to the new integrated library system, and (3) managing and maintaining library databases through Libguides, and (4) generating statistics of database usage and collection holdings. The following are some of my tasks during an academic year:
    • Yearly: Generated KB collection accessible item statistics by using SPSS, and usage statistics of e-resources and print resources from EBSCO, OCLC and other vendors’ admin sites to be included in the library annual report and the Fast Facts page on library website (https://library.shu.edu/library/fast-facts and https://library.shu.edu/lib-stat-dashboard/home) .
    • Semesterly: (1) Monitored electronic resource licensing expiration dates and act accordingly regarding renewals, and (2) executed the Link Checker app in Springshare for the link integrity of LibGudes, databases, and books, and worked with librarian colleagues to correct the broken links in their LibGuides.
    • Quarterly: Downloaded Kbart files of full-text e-journal and e-book records (over nine million) from WMS KB, extracted the data that had ISSN or eISSN or OCLC numbers and valid URLs, and uploaded the cleaned data files to RAPID for ILL and EDS for being searchable.
    • Weekly: Downloaded the item inventory records from OCLC’s FTP site, corrected mismatched columns, and uploaded the cleaned data files to SharePoint on the Seton Hall University network for archival purpose.
    • Daily: Performed troubleshooting any online access issues brought to my attention. For example: (1) Resolved issues of OpenAthens link authentication and Open URL links not linking to full-text, (2) corrected journal coverage dates in KB, and (3) added individually purchased e-journals and e-books to customized KB collections.
    • Special projects upon the request of library administration and librarian colleagues. For example:
      • Worked with ILL and serial library staff to resolve any issues that they encountered.
      • Worked in collegiality with subject librarian colleagues of diverse background to generate collection subject lists per requests and provided them with true-sort lists of LC numbers.
      • Completed the collection valuation project by using the LC subclass formula provided by GOBI Library Solutions to estimate the dollar value of the library print books for insurance purposes.
      • Managed vendor subscription admin accounts by adding OCLC link resolver URL and IP ranges.
      • Managed OpenAthens Admin Account for our subscribed e-collections.
      • Used MarcEdit to convert MARC records downloaded from WMS into a tab delimited txt file with selected MARC fields like 008 for LHR created and modified dates, 300$b for physical dimensions, and 260$e for publisher’s place name per special requests. Merged the fields from the extracted Bib 001 and LHR 004 files by using Access and exported the merged file into an Excel file.
  • Served as the lead librarian to negotiate licenses for acquiring EBSCO’s Electronic Discovery Service (EDS) platform in 2011 after reviewing and comparing with similar products such as Ex Libris’ Primo with my colleagues.
  • Served as the library contact to EBSCO to make sure that a majority of the library’s electronic resources and print serials are searchable on the EDS platform.
  • Served as Systems/Digital Librarian (2004 – 2015). Responsible for (1) maintaining Ex Libris’ Voyager for cataloging, circulation, acquisition, and reporting functions, (2) trouble shooting library staff’s computer problems, (3) digitizing dissertations and theses, and (4) coordinating the electronic reserve service.
  • Served as Digital Librarian, Library Web Master (September 1997 – August 2003).
  • Taught 300+ bibliographic instruction classes to 5,000+ undergraduate and graduate students (1997 – present).
  • Served as library liaison to Asian Studies and consultant for graduate students for their research projects on China (2004 – present).
  • Guided the Chinese visiting scholars who performed their internships at Seton Hall University Library to create their own web pages (2000-2005).
  • Created a local requisition database for the library’s acquisition department to eliminate the need of using paper form of “Faculty Library Requisition” and to improve the efficiency of faculty requisition submission and processing (2003-2015).
  • Served as Chair of Library’s Educational Policy Committee (July 2000 – June 2001). During my term, two policies were adopted: (1) Copyright Guideline on e-Reserve at Seton Hall University Library and (2) Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Policy.
