The Importance of Youth Voices during the United Nations General Assembly

This past week, the United Nations hosted its 80th General Assembly with the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.” Students attended several high level meetings on behalf of their student organizations, such as the United Nations Association and John Quincy Adams Society. All the students felt that participating in the events reinforced the belief that youth voices and collaboration are essential for making progress during this critical time in international relations.

My Experience with the American Foundation for Children with AIDS

This past summer, I worked with the American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) in Zimbabwe and saw firsthand the impacts of the recent events. According to the World Health Organization, the leading cause of death in Zimbabwe is HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control reports HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, is a preventable and treatable disease that affects the body’s immune system, leaving the body susceptible to infections and illnesses. HIV’s transition into AIDS happens in three stages: Acute HIV infection, Chronic HIV Infection, and finally, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). People with AIDS typically survive three years after the transition.

New Sora AI Video Generator Raises Ethical Questions

Being able to generate videos from short prompts in about a minute, OpenAI’s Sora 2 app quickly found success following its release this past September, reaching one million downloads in under 5 days according to Time Magazine. Despite the technology’s seemingly endless capabilities, the platform still laid down some ground rules–videos had a clear Sora 2 logo, consent was needed to make clips of living people, and prompts that were intentionally fraudulent, sexual, or violent would not be generated.

Afghanistan and Pakistan Clash at Border, Agree to a Truce

During the night of October 11, Afghanistan and Pakistan clashed at several checkpoints and posts along their shared border, known as the Durand Line, which was established by the British in 1893, according to Reuters. After the initial clashes, Pakistan closed its border crossings on October 12 to maintain security and prevent incursions . The attacks follow recent demands from Pakistan urging the Taliban to restrain militants who have intensified their assaults within Pakistan.
