On October 27, 2021, the Marketing department held its second masterclass with Dario Spina of Viacom CBS.

Dario Spina prepared an informative presentation for students that provided numerous real-life examples of his work as a CMO. Students learned about ViacomCBS’s marketing strategies, plans, and a glance at his past projects.

Spina started by providing some background about what he has done thus far. He went to Pace University for his undergrad and Seton Hall University for his Masters. Spina did not have a strict plan that he adhered to but instead, he bounced around in many different areas to find what was best for him. Spina advised students that a linear plan of life is not usual and being in a disrupted phase can be extremely beneficial. He identified himself as a creative generalist, someone who is knowledgeable and versatile.

Spina then went into details about his current position as CMO and what that entails. From studio partnerships to integrations, to social impacts, ViacomCBS is doing so many things. Dario explained the difficulties of his position at this rate of marketing because the way that advertisement has evolved has changed the game forever.

The conversation then shifted to the importance of what Gen Z is currently doing and the standards they have risen for companies. There is pressure being applied to big companies internally and externally. For example, providing an exceptional work environment for employees, providing more than just a sale of their product, and much more! Companies are now taking the idea of their corporate social responsibility more seriously, and we truly enjoyed hearing what Spina is doing at ViacomCBS to keep this idea alive.

We loved hearing Dario Spina take us through his very intriguing and insightful presentation. Students had terrific questions for him, and Spina provided 1 on 1 conversation at the end of the event.

These Masterclasses have served as an amazing learning lesson for students and these classes have provided real-life experiences for students who are pursuing the marketing field. If you’d like to participate in a similar event to this one, make sure to attend the next master class with Niles Brandon. He is the Vice President of Human Resources at Fanatics, and he will be with us in person! We hope to see you on Thursday, November 18th at 7 pm in person.
