DULCE Meeting 3/20/2020  

  • Q&A on any subject matter, including in relation to DULCE projects, SGA candidacies, issues related to COVID-19 including advising, and other matters (20-25mins) 
    • Doctor’s Ruby working on helping students to get internships remotely .
    • Dean Smith is thinking about turning all the planned events into virtual events to make them accessible for students {collaborative process between the administration and the student body} 
    • Dean Smith took students questions and concerns:
      • Question 1: how will the pass/fail classes affect the student body?  
      • The pass/fail classes are available for certain electives  
      • Most of the students in the School of Diplomacy want classes with grades.
      • If there are any questions, students should refer to Dr. Edwards 
    • Question 2: what is going to happen with the summer study board trips? Are students going to receive the refund?
      • 2 staged process:  
      • All canceled study abroad programs were asked for all the budget information (what kind of refunds could be secured?)  
      • The University will discuss on how to refund the money in the most effective way possible  
    • Question 3: What harm can the pass/fail classes cause?  
      • Will affect the Dean’s Lists
      • Restricts certain professional certificates  
      • Restricts the amount of scholarships (GPA based)  
    • Question 4: Are all the summer classes going to be provided online?
      • Yes, all the classes are going to be provided remotely. 
      • Dean Smith is teaching UN Insiders View Class (open to non-Seton Hall students as well)  
      • Dr. Edwards is teaching Diplomacy Project  
      • Summer classes are supply-demand based  
      • Communicate with Dr. Edwards if any summer classes should be added to the summer classes list  
    • Question 5: Would it be possible for seniors to take some summer classes and still graduate as a senior? 
      • It is possible to take those classes as a non-matriculate student and graduate in May 
      • Students can even take graduate-level classes 
  • Update from DULCE leadership team on this academic year’s progress/ leadership transition (15min) 
    • The Accomplishments of the DULCE Team  
    • Creation of the DULCE Leadership Team  
    • Gender-representative, grade-representative, collaboration between the School of Diplomacy administration and Diplomacy students  
    • Student-Led Orientation (70% turnout rate)  
    • Social Media Presence of DULCE and its own logo  
    • More accessible for students to reach out to the student body  
    • Student Ambassador Resource  
  • Uploaded on the DULCE blog and is accessible for everyone  
    • Promotes the culture of connectivity among the students of Diplomacy 
    • DULCEs IGTV initiative {the DULCE Leadership members have reached out to SGA regarding the initiative}  
    • Unique branding tool for prospective Diplomacy students  
    • DULCE takes every comment and suggestion into account  
  • Interviews of current Diplomacy Students 
    • The underlined data is going to be delivered to the School of Diplomacy’s administration  
    • Digital Forms Initiative  
    • Undergrad/Grad F&Qs are ready  
    • Peter is a new facilitator of the DULCE team (Yay!) 
    • Networking event in the Fall 
    • DULCE will be working with the Alumni network 
    • International Law Panel  
    • Was scheduled on March 31st 
    • Hopefully will be moved forward for Fall 2020
