Meeting Notes 1/24 DULCE Meeting

 

  1. Mark opened the meeting and attendance was taken.
  2. Dean Smith gave an introduction and presented some news and updates from over the break. There will be a room in McQuaid pending some construction that students will be able to use for a place to study or relax.
  3. Mark then discussed the initiatives the Leadership Team has been working on from last semester.
    1. Digitization of forms is going well, there is research being put in to look at what the Stillman School of Business has been doing and how we can try and build a similar idea into the Diplomacy School.
    2. There will be a networking event potentially on February 26th at 6:30pm for Diplomacy students to meet alumni and learn about what they are doing in the world in a speed dating format.
    3. As well, the Leadership Team will be carrying out interviews with different students in the Diplomacy School that will help to improve upon curriculum and gauge student interest in the classes they are involved in.
    4. Mark is also looking to find and publicize a calendar of student activities that have to do with Diplomacy which will be completed this semester.
  4. Alyssa Futa discussed her work on the digitization of forms and working with the finance majors who have a massive excel sheet we are looking to emulate.
  5. The Degree Audit (now Degree Progress Tracker) is up on OKTA to be used and is a helpful tool for students to use.
  6. There were questions about the proposed UNITAR trip to Sweden, pricing is TBD but Dean Smith is working to make sure we have enough students.
  7. There were also questions about the U.N. Intensive Summer Training at Seton Hall and it was discussed that Seton Hall students that sign up on time have priority.
  8. The conversation then turned to social media for DULCE and the launching of an Instagram and Facebook soon.
  9. IGTV Content was discussed with everything from student or faculty interviews to Instagram stories and shoutouts being discussed. This project would serve as a branding tool for the School of Diplomacy social media present and is looking for a “positive student vibe” to highlight and promote the happenings at the Diplomacy School.
  10. It was also discussed that many potential freshmen check out social media as a way of seeing if they will fit in at a certain University. This could be a place to point them.
  11. Younger then brought up the fact that for the surveys that DULCE is doing to make sure the questions are not leading to ensure the integrity of the results.
  12. Then the meeting wrapped up and some members discussed further involvement from Freshmen and how to add a few more underclassmen to the Leadership Team.
