Pirates on the Pitch: Hall takes on Georgetown in first Big East Final appearance since 2004

After defeating the No. 17 ranked Marquette Golden Eagles 4-1 in their first Big East tournament match since 2012, the Seton Hall Pirates are one game away from becoming champions.

The Pirates will face the top-seeded Georgetown Hoyas in the Big East championship game at Shaw Field on Saturday, April 17th at 3:00pm EST.

Seton Hall’s lone loss this season came at the hands of the Hoyas, as on March 3, the Pirates fell 2-1 in overtime on Georgetown’s home field.

But nearly two weeks later, during Seton Hall’s second matchup with the Hoyas, Eden O’Leary scored an equalizing goal in the 81st minute of the match and the game resulted in a 1-1 tie after double overtime.

The Hoyas, who are currently ranked second in the nation, produced five All-Conference First Team players this season, by far the most by any Big East team, as well as three players on the second and third teams.

Georgetown also had three players win major awards in the Big East: Midfielder of the Year Dante Polvara, Defensive Player of the Year Rio Hope-Gund and Goalkeeper of the Year Giannis Nikopolidis.

Georgetown is searching for their fourth consecutive Big East championship while the Pirates look to capture their first conference title since 1992.

The game will be broadcasted live on FS2 with Seton Hall alum John Fanta and Georgetown alum Tom Greaser calling the action.
