Best of NBA Jerseys City edition 2020

Two words can simply invoke applause and/or groans amongst fans in the NBA. Those two words are ‘City Edition’. We here at Clarity Stripe have selected the top city edition Jerseys for the 2019-2020 season.

Honorable Mentions

12. Indiana Pacers– The most notable aspect of this jersey is the blue checkered stripe down the left side of the uniform. Indiana is known for the “Indy car series” which is a premier level of open-wheel racing in North America. This jersey is designed to pay homage to the sport of open-wheel racing which is infamously tied to the state of Indiana. The blue checkered stripe is meant to represent the finish line of the track while the blue and yellow circled number reflects the design of the numbers on the Indy cars.

11. San Antonio Spurs Camo– Although the Spurs have done this idea before, this one is by far the best of the camo jerseys in recent memory. It makes for a sharp-looking uniform that we hope they stick to in future seasons.

Top 10

10. Philadelphia 76ers- The 76ers jersey is yet again another example of a simple, yet effective jersey. The cream color compliments the cursive writing of the city name and the outline around the jersey of red, white, and blue look nice. Another nice creative twist is making the numbers red while the city writing is blue.

9. Detroit Pistons Motor City– Detroit did a great job with this year and their city edition jersey. The tire marks that are down the jersey are a perfect edition for Motor City. Another simple and effective way a team was able to incorporate their city culture within a jersey this year.

8. Brooklyn Nets- The Nets use their city edition to tribute the infamous Brooklyn rapper named Christopher Wallace – better known as the Notorious B.I.G whose life was cut short at the age of 24. Wallace grew up on St. James Place in Clinton Hood, a neighborhood near the border of Bedford-Stuyvesant. He made his name in Bed-Stuy by doing a freestyle on a block party at age 17. We feel as though the jersey honors him well and the font fits really nice with it.

7. New York Knicks- The Knicks have reused their city edition jersey from 2018. However, the design of having the skyline on the sides of the jersey is what makes this stand out in our top ten. The jersey represents the unity and diversity of the city and the Knicks did a solid job all around on this one.

6. New Orleans Pelicans- The Pelicans pay homage to the festival that takes place in their city on Fat Tuesday of each year called Mardi Gras. Since it is the day before Ash Wednesday, people of all over the world come to New Orleans to have fun and enjoy their favorite food or snack before the Lenten season starts. They honored their city nicely.

5. Toronto Raptors- There is only one name that’s synonymous with the design of this jersey. Toronto’s own—Drake. This jersey is inspired by Drake’s OVO Sound record label based in Toronto. The design combines the elements of the original uniform with a modern color scheme. The black and gold color scheme is hallmark of the OVO collection. After winning the NBA Championship last year, the Raptors have received an enormous amount of global recognition, so they needed a uniform worthy of such. It seems like Raptors fans keep on winning.

4. Los Angeles Lakers- This great-looking jersey was designed by Laker great Shaquille O’Neal. It is dedicated to the late Jerry Buss, who was the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers while Shaq was part of the team. This was Shaq’s way of having people remember how great Jerry Buss was and let the younger generations know his name. On the sides of the uniform, Big Aristotle honors the retired numbers of Laker greats in forms of stars that you would see in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The uniform itself still looks like the classic Lakers with a little flair that only Shaq can provide.

3. Denver Nuggets- Our 3rd pick honors their team’s iconic rainbow design that was designed by their fans during the 1981 season. Denver wore the iconic rainbow design on their jerseys from 1981-1993. This year, the team has decided to add the rocky mountains to it, as a way to pay homage to the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. The rainbow on the black jersey turns out to look really nice. As a collective, we believe Denver did a really good job at their city jerseys.

2. Milwaukee Bucks Cream City- Our runner up jersey is nice and simple. What makes this jersey our second-ranked one is that the colors go so well together and that it is fairly simple. It goes to show that sometimes sticking to a simple design can still work in today’s NBA. Furthermore, the fact that Milwaukee was able to add cream to their jerseys adds some culture, as they were known as the first city to have cream-colored bricks in the 19th century.

1. Miami Vice City Edition- Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your life? The answer is no. The colors go so well together and the slick stylish writing of Miami on the jerseys and mixture of pink numbers adds so much to these City edition jerseys. No other jersey comes close to these, as they are our consensus number one pick here a Clarity Stripe.
