Calling all students at Seton Hall University! This year’s Spring Career Fair will be held virtually through the span of 3 days on March 23rd, March 24th, and March 25th. Hosted by The Career Center, the Career Fair is an amazing way to network with potential employers and learn more about different organizations.

Fellow Career Center advisor Bob Franco notes, “A key benefit of attending a Career Fair is the opportunity to build relationships. Meeting with recruiters offers you a chance to ask questions and expand your knowledge about their organization. Since more than 80% of all job offers are built through networking, you can use your time to stand out as someone who could benefit their organization.”

Students will receive the chance to have a guaranteed one-on-one 15-minute session with a recruiter by registering in advance. To register for the fair, go to the Career Toolkit (https://library.shu.edu/CareerToolkit/jobs) and click on “NAVIGATOR”. Then select the Spring 2021 Virtual Career Fair button on the left menu. Additionally, students can also “drop-in” into group sessions without preregistering, similar to an in-person Career Fair when visiting a recruiter’s table. However, it is recommended to preregister for a one-on-one session with a recruiter to obtain a specialized time to connect and ask further questions.

Moreover, it is highly advised for students to upload a copy of their updated resume to the 2021 Virtual Career Fair Resume Book. The Career Center will be sending these resumes out immediately after the Fair. Additional assistance on how to upload a resume can be attained by scheduling a virtual meeting with your career advisor via COMPASS.

Once accessing the fair, students will be able to see the list of participating employers. The list of employers will continue to grow as the Career Fair approaches, so students should try to check in once in a while to see which new employers will be there.

In preparation for the Fair, The Career Center has assembled a Career Fair Week encompassing resume critiques, practicing your elevator pitch/networking, and practicing your pitch with an employer. Students will get emails with links to access. Below are the dates and times for the upcoming Career Fair Week:

•Walk-in resume critiques: Monday, March 15th, 1 – 4pm, or Tuesday, March 16th, 9am – noon
•“How to Market Yourself at a Virtual Career Fair”: Monday, March 15th, 6 – 7pm, or Friday, March 19th, 3 – 4pm
•“Practice your Pitch” with an Employer: Tuesday, March 16th, 10am – noon (sign up in Navigator), or Thursday, March 18th, 3-5pm (sign up in Navigator)

This is an incredible time to network with potential future employers and create a compelling brand for yourself. Career Center Director, Reesa Greenwald, emphasizes, “This is the time to be proactive with your career. My best advice is to speak with as many different organizations as you can. Learn about them and about where you may fit within the organization. Find out what openings they have. Take the time to stand out in the crowd and land an interview.”
