i. SECOND READING of new Article 3.12 on Emeritus Faculty:

3.12      Retired and Emeritus faculty

1. All full-time faculty members who retire automatically enjoy the privileges enumerated in the Retired Faculty Policy as agreed to by the Senate and the Provost.

2. All full-time faculty members with at least twenty years of service at the University on their retirement automatically attain the rank of emeritus faculty on relinquishing tenure or long-term contracts and shall continue to retain that rank so long as they remain in good standing with the University. Time served at another university may count toward the twenty years, but this time counted may not exceed the number of years served at Seton Hall.

3. Eligible faculty members in a phased retirement agreement relinquish tenure at the outset of that agreement and become emeritus faculty.

4. Emeritus status may be awarded to a retiring faculty member with fewer than twenty years of service, by the Provost on the recommendation of the faculty member’s department and dean.

5. All such emeritus faculty, regardless of their previous academic rank, shall be entitled “professor emeritus/a”.
