DULCE Meeting 2/12/2021
Minutes:
- Discussion about the future of the DULCE Leadership Team, propositions included:
- Co-Presidents (one Graduate School student and one Undergraduate student)
- PR/social media, professional development, student initiative roles
- DULCE discussed hosting a public speaking over Zoom/Teams speaker series sometime in March/April which will invite guest speakers to highlight proper etiquette and common issues with public speaking online as well as offer words of encouragement
- Dr. Ruby highlighted several upcoming speaker events for career development
- The discussion moved to the March and April DULCE meetings.
- March:
- Town Hall inviting student organizations to highlight comments/questions about being online and touch base with student leaders and the Diplomacy School
- April:
- A speaker from the Diplomacy school highlighting research that may be interesting to students as well as comments about the Summer/Fall Semesters
- Students discussed outreach for DULCE and creating more streamlined agenda’s and outreach for meetings – as well as better contact and follow through over email with interested students.
- There were then several student questions addressing:
- When registration will take place for the fall semester (TBD)
- Mental health days and why SHU has not implemented them
- the answer to this was the timing and difficulty of implementing them while Professors had already finalized Syllabi
- Future renovations of the UC and why Mooney hall or other projects were prioritized
- Baskets and the difficulties of having 4000 classes in the freshman baskets which may push them to take those difficult classes freshman year
- Last, student leaders highlighted the idea of having a concrete Diplomacy mentorship program where incoming students would be paired with Juniors/Seniors to discuss career/academic development
