Three Minute Leadership: Everything Matters

To: The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning

Manual Lima, in his TED Talk, A Visual History of Human Knowledge, concludes his presentation with a quote from Bruce Mau’s book, Massive Change: “When everything is connected to everything else, for better or for worse, everything matters.”

Great leaders value the power of connectivity. The world suddenly becomes more than just the sum of individual parts. It is deepened and enriched through magical juxtaposition and complementation of people, objects, thoughts, and perspectives. Emma Restall Orr writes:

“The important element is the way in which all things are connected. Every thought and action sends shivers of energy into the world around us, which affects all creation. Perceiving the world as a web of connectedness helps us to overcome the feelings of separation that hold us back and cloud our vision. This connection with all life increases our sense of responsibility for every move, every attitude, allowing us to see clearly that each soul does indeed make a difference to the whole.”

Gather dots! Lots of them. Connect them in magical and wondrous ways. See the marvels that their inter-connectivity. May you come to better understand the deep wisdom of Mau’s words:  “When everything is connected to everything else, … everything matters.” Remember Henry David Thoreau’s counsel on what matters: “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” See the best in everyone and everything. There is greatness to be found in deeply knowing that everything matters.

Have a beautiful day and a magnificent week!!!
