On September 21st, The Gerald P. Buccino ’63 Center for Leadership Development extended their annual welcome to the Stillman School of Business’ ‘best and brightest.’ The Class of 2019 exchanged warm smiles and firm handshakes with University President, Dr. A. Gabriel Esteban and Associate Vice President of Alumni and Government Relations, Mathew Borowick.

Program Director Mike Reuter began the meeting by describing the excitement of the new class. He touched upon how this class brings to the table the most intelligent group of new students to date. These students, like so many before them, have endless possibilities; there is no limit to what they can accomplish. Following Mike’s statement, Joseph Belli and Connor Sanbower spoke for the team by thanking Dr. Esteban and Mr. Borowick for taking the time to sit down and speak about their own personal successes and offer their best advice.

Dr. Esteban and Mr. Borowick began by describing their own rise to their positions and how life does not follow the planned path. “Know when to say goodbye” was an important message from Dr. Esteban, “do not overstay in a position that you are not fit for, be willing to be flexible.” The conversation continued to highlight the benefits of networking, the importance of emotional intelligence and the need to embrace the benefits of good stress.

As the meeting drew to an end, Dr. Esteban and Mr. Borowick delivered their closing remarks, reminding the team not to chase money and personal success: “Leadership is about serving others for the sake of helping them grow and develop. It’s not just about the money.” With so many thoughts and ideas racing through their minds, the Class of 2019 set their eyes to the future, brimming with eagerness to forge their own legacy.
