Gianna, I really like how you talk about Affordable and how you define it and emphasize it because it makes your point very powerful. I agree that healthcare needs to not only be more affordable but that it also needs to be more accessesable.
Thank you for sharing, Gianna. Your statistics really brought more light to this issue. I really liked the L.O.U.D. approach, and think that social workers and many others in the community would benefit by following this.
The raised point that physicians are not providing equal services really stood out to me the most. As someone who has private health insurance I’ve noticed that there are a large amount of doctors who do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. Additionally, it is very difficult for some people to get Medicaid.
Thank you Gianna! I really enjoyed the acronym LOUD. I agree that social workers are the ones that need to be spreading the knowledge of these services and opportunities. It is also our job as social workers to combat social oppression and find these services for everyone. I also like the part about debunking false claims for our clients so they can really understand these services. Great job!
Thank you for speaking about this Gianna! More adequate and equitable health coverage for all is such an important issue that we are still facing to this day, and I like that you included what social workers can do to help. I think it is especially important to debunk false claims regarding affordable health care because there are many who do not know better, and are unaware of all of their coverage options.
Hi Gianna, This was a really great presentation about how we can achieve affordable health care. I was really interested in learning about how private insurers will lose millions of dollars if we implement universal health care. Capitalism and individualism both play a significant role in why we do not have universal health care. We, as social workers, have an obligation to fight and advocate for both affordable and universal health care. Overall, good job, and I learned a lot from your video.
People mainly who use the emergency room as their primary source of healthcare can not only cause stress on hospital employees. It should be a basic right to have access to healthcare as well
I agree that universal healthcare is needed. So many people will avoid getting the healthcare that they need because they cannot afford it. In addition, large pharmaceutical companies profit from people’s illness(es). For example, insulin costs like $3 to make but will charge people $300 without insurance. What will happen if they cannot afford insurance? What happens then? There also should not have to be so many policies and acts put into place because families cannot afford healthcare. If we just had universal healthcare, then we would not have this problem.
Gianna I think this is such an important topic and our country needs to reconsider its emphasis on individualism and capitalism because it is costing people their livelihoods. I hope that as people continue to bring awareness about access to healthcare that we eventually give a push towards changing policy and granting coverage to millions. Thank you!
Closing the health gap is such an important conversation to be having considering how our country is able to close it. Health care should be accessible, affordable and adequate to every community despite their economic status.
Thank you for taking the time to talk about the current health gap. This was an excellent topic for you to speak on, especially with everything the country has been through with the recent Covid Pandemic. I hope that with Social Workers like yourself going into the field, we are one step closer to Affordable Healthcare
