Barbiecore Continues with Fashion Book “Barbie: The World Tour”

Barbiecore became the biggest trend and aesthetic as the most awaited movie Barbie hit the big screens in 2023. The style is all about encompassing Barbie’s fashion and lifestyle, being classic, timeless, and embracing pink. It is definitely here to stay as Mattel and Rizzoli New York publishing house announced Barbie: The World Tour hardcover book to release in early March.

Barbie was the most anticipated and the biggest movie in 2023, racking up 8 Oscar nominations. The movie directed by Greta Gerwig started with both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling playing Barbie and Ken respectively. It was announced to be the highest grossing film ever from a female filmmaker.

Margot Robbie’s Barbie inspired outfits were the center of fashion conversations around the world, during the press tour of Barbie. This fashion book features the outfits that Robbie wore to the promotions while collaborating with Andrew Mukamal, Robbie’s fashion stylist, and never-before seen outfits. Robbie replicated some of Barbie’s famous fashion styles such as wearing a Vivienne Westwood gown to replicate the 1960 Enchanted Evening Barbie or Robbie’s custom black Schiaparelli Haute Couture dress to replicate Barbie’s Spotlight dress of 1960. These fashion choices were displayed in numerous places with the world press tour taking place in Seoul, Mexico City, London, Las Vegas, Sydney, and more. The looks featured high brand designers like Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Donatella Versace, and more.

During the time of Barbie promotions, the SAG-AFRTA and Writers Guild of America union strikes were simultaneously occurring, so the global press tour was cut short. This limited Robbie and her Barbie doll looks so the legendary photographer, Criag McDean, photographed the never seen outfits to include in the book. It also includes details that will excite fashion lovers such as Polaroids from fittings, original designer sketches, and commentary from Robbie, Mukamal, and other designers like Jeremy Scott, Olivier Rousteing, Manolo Blahnik, and more.

Andrew Mukamal stated “this book is the culmination of tens of thousands of hours of work by some of the most talented and creative visionaries and designers on Earth.” The book holds the core of the most iconic looks throughout the 65 years of Barbie’s fashion history, opening up a wide future to continue Barbie inspired styles.

Margot Robbie and her team’s creativity in bringing Barbiecore to life is definitely important in fashion history with the imaginative ways to have the aesthetic continue. Andrew Mukamal and Margot Robbie’s book has the potential to becomes one of the most famous coffee table books of 2024, striving to continue Barbie’s fashion history with her femineity and resilience.
