Born in Florence, South Carolina, on March 18, 1901, William H. Johnson studied at the National Academy of Design; the Cape Cod School of Art, under Charles Hawthorne; in southern France from 1926 to 1929; and in Denmark and Norway from 1930 to 1938.
Paris is many things: a city of romance; a hotbed of culture, and the inspiration for countless artists, musicians and poets. Paris was the first foreign city Davis ever visited, and it was one of the last major cities he played in, shortly before his death.
