Katherine C. Aquino, doctoral candidate, has received a $10,000 grant through Policy Research Inc. to study how to better improve the disability determination process for disability insurance programs funded through the Social Security Administration; and was recently featured in Seton Hall University’s Official Newsletter, Inside the Hall. David M. Chapinski, doctoral student, plans to attend the 2016 International Academic Business Conference / 2016 International Education Conference in Orlando, where his proposal entitled, “Changing Forces: It’s not Just A Matter Of Changing Education Policy And Disruptive Behaviors Today” has been accepted for oral presentation and publication in the conference proceedings. The conference will be held from January 3-7, 2016 at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn within Epcot Resorts in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Dr. Kelchen, has been involved in the following publications and activities:
• Testified at the U.S. Department of Education’s Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance in Washington regarding the topic of “risk sharing”–holding colleges financially accountable for their students’ performance and loan repayment. He released a white paper on risk sharing through the Lumina Foundation earlier this month (http://www.luminafoundation.org/resources/proposing-a
 federal-risk-sharing-policy).
• Presented at the Education Writers Association conference in Orlando on the topic of employer tuition reimbursement plans. He discussed how the arrangements work financially and things that journalists should be aware of when writing stories.
• Quoted in numerous media outlets regarding the federal government’s release of new College Scorecard data that included metrics such as loan repayment rates and earnings of former students who received federal financial aid. Here are two interviews from PBS.org and WNYC.org.

Mariel Pagán, doctoral student, has been selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of NASPA’s Escaleras Institute, designed for Latina student affair s professionals who aspire to attain senior or executive leadership roles at institutions of higher learning. The NASPA Escaleras: Student Affairs Latin@ Leadership Institute at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI will be held October 25—27.
