Virtual Talk and Workshop: Kwame Sarfo-Mensah
Kwame Sarfo-Mensah, founder of Identity Talk Consulting, a global educational consulting firm, and author of several books, including the forthcoming Learning to Relearn: Supporting Identity in a Culturally Affirming Classroom, will be giving a talk and workshop titled, “From Awareness to Action: Strengthening Faculty-Student Relationships through Identity-Affirming Strategies.” The talk will consider the various cultural challenges instructors and students face in the classroom. These can include misread cues, language differences and different approaches to engagement. Even something as seemingly obvious as office hours can prove to be an obstacle to understanding and connecting with students.
The talk will be followed by a workshop, where attendees will be able to engage in a deeper discussion of specific concerns and consider strategies to address them.
