Developing Custom GPTs for Course-Specific Tutoring
May 9, 10:00am – 11:00am, in Teams
In this presentation, led by Dr. Lisa Wilde, Assoc. Prof. of English at DeSales University, we’ll explore how educators can harness OpenAI’s custom GPT tools to create customized AI tutors for a variety of course-specific skills and content types. The session will offer a step-by-step overview of the natural-language GPT creation process—no coding required—followed by a live demo of a custom GPT built to assist with reading comprehension in an early literature course. Participants will leave with practical insights into designing AI tutors that align with course objectives, support student learning, and personalize academic engagement.
Lisa Wilde is Associate Professor of English and Chair of the English Program at DeSales University, where she teaches a range of courses in literature, composition, science and medical writing, and AI. Her research focuses on rhetorics of science and mathematics in early modern England, with particular interest in systems of quantification, numerical representation and encoding.
