DSS Autism Workshop
Over the past 20 years, the uptick in the diagnosis rates for Autism Spectrum Disorder, and corresponding success of early intervention strategies, has resulted in a significant increase in the number of individuals with ASD in post-secondary education. As such, college educators and administrators have been struggling to understand how best to accommodate and support these highly enigmatic students. This interactive session will address questions about the unique characteristics and needs of individuals with ASD in college, and provide recommendations for reasonable accommodations, classroom management strategies, housing, extra-curricular participation, communication, and ideally, will enhance faculty and administrators’ understanding of their students with ASD.
