Wakefern Food Corp. Hosts Leadership 102 Students

On Friday, December 4th, the team traveled to Wakefern Food Corp. headquarters in Keasbey, NJ for the first Leadership 102 event of the year. Seniors Brian Mitchell and Anthony Pescetto, junior Vina Tailor and sophomore Jeffrey Joyce worked with Donna Dedinsky and Lisa Day of Wakefern to plan a day of learning and exploration at the headquarters. The day began with a greeting from President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Sheridan. Joe highlighted the company’s unique culture of family and dedication. Students then heard from various officers of the corporation, who spoke on a number of topics ranging from procurement, business analytics, digital e-commerce, the Women Grocers of America and more.

Students enjoyed their time learning about Wakefern and touring the warehouse.

In addition to these insightful presentations, the team was also given the opportunity to head downstairs into the warehouse for a personalized tour of the facilities. Students were able to get a behind the scenes look at the operations of the company, truly putting the size of the operation into perspective.

The day concluded with a case study in which the students were broken into three teams. They were then tasked with developing ways to attract millennials to the corporation, using their unique position as college students to bring about innovative ideas and methods. Once they had taken the time to address all components of the case study, each group was given the chance to pitch their ideas to Donna and Lisa as well as the rest of the team.

We would like to thank the entire team at Wakefern for providing us with this incredible opportunity!
