The passed few weeks have been an exciting time for the new Leadership class as they delve into the business world head-on to experience some of the most unique opportunities anyone their age can receive. The networking events and intimate group meetings have opened new avenues of thought and introduced valuable insight for successful development along their business journey.

After meeting with President Esteban, Dean Strawser, and Matthew Borowick on September 11th, the students eagerly anticipated their next meeting with Executive Mark Ganton. As a man with a rich background in business marketing, Ganton works as a partner and Vice President of Strategy and Planning for his family business, Brian J. Ganton & Associates, right in the center of the marketing capital of the world, Madison Avenue in NYC.

As everything prior to the meeting settled into place, the students kicked off the conversation with introductions and a brief recap of how they as Leadership students expect to tap into their great potential with the help of generous executives like Ganton himself. This being the first time meeting with Leadership students, Ganton took this opportunity to teach one of the most integral requirements for success according to his experiences: branding.

Ganton explained the prevalence of making a name for not only the students themselves, but also expanding the name of the community they originate from like the Leadership Development Honors Program. On an individual level, he spoke of overall presentation of being and how representing yourself as competent and confident radiates positive energy. Branding their team, program, or school starts with marketing and more public promotion. From personal experience, he taught about how firms undertake the responsibility of getting out their message through specific strategies.

The students kept the conversation intriguing by asking various questions in order to truly understand the crucial message and key take-a-ways. They aspired to know what their role was in order to implement this knowledge effectively.

As the meeting drew to a close, Director Michael Reuter and students all agreed that Mark Ganton is officially “now part of the Leadership family.” The spark from the meeting encouraged these students to take the course of action most beneficial to themselves and those around them to represent what it truly means to lead and to maintain a positive image so that others can follow.

The team thanked Ganton for his time and insightful comments and exchanged business cards. The students look forward to talking again with him soon.
