Chrisitna, your presentation on adjusting social media access for adolescents provides valuable insights into this pressing issue. Your ability to effectively highlight the correlation between social media use and mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression, was intriguing to see, especially how you noted how even some limited use can influence adolescents’ welfare. Also, the emphasis you made on how vulnerable teens are during puberty along with the risks that social comparison behaviors bring are logical and reasonable. The proposal you made about raising the minimum age for social media accounts to 15 along with applying stronger age verification systems were very viable steps toward protecting the youth. However, I question if it’s possible to consider a more subtle approach that recognizes the potential benefits of social media, such as developing social connections or giving support for marginalized groups. Also, maybe it’s possible to combine proper regulation with digital literacy education as that could enable teens the ability to navigate online spaces in a safer manner. The work you did raised many important questions about balancing protections with the realities of the digital world and I greatly appreciate the intriguing nature of your research.

Christina, your presentation raises a significant point about how social media affects teenage mental health. I agree that excessive usage of social media can raise the risk of conditions including anxiety, depression, and poor sleep. Increasing the minimum age to 15 and putting in place enhanced age verification procedures could help safeguard teenagers during this crucial period of development. It’s alarming how simple it is for minors to get around age limitations, and your recommendation for stronger security measures makes sense. I appreciate you sharing your findings.
Hello, Christina. Your presentation on regulating social media access for youth and adolescents was very informative. I liked how you connected social media use to rising mental health concerns like anxiety and depression. Many people today do not realize that these things can happen at a young age, and the internet can cause that. This is a topic that should be talked about more. I also appreciated how you brought attention to the role of regulation and parental involvement. It made me think about our class discussions on prevention and early intervention in social work. Teaching parents, educators, and even students about the impact of social media could be a huge step in reducing these risks. It’s scary to think that kids are exposed to unrealistic standards, cyberbullying, and constant comparison at such a young age. I wonder what role schools or social workers could play in helping monitor or educate youth about social media use. Maybe adding mental health programs or social media literacy workshops in schools could help students better understand what they’re exposed to online. I really enjoyed your presentation it’s a growing issue that definitely deserves more attention! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Christina, I really enjoyed your presentation and appreciated the nature of the topic at hand. I thought you did a great job at highlighting the importance of social media usage and its effects on teenagers. While I understand the concern of the increasing use of social media among the younger population and thought your recommendations were great, I wonder how feasible they are in this era of technology. I wonder if a recommendation could possibly be to educate youth about the negative effects of high levels of social media usage and offer resources on where they can go if they find their self esteem lowering, etc. While it can be difficult to regulate and ensure adolescents are only able to access social media at a certain age, I think it could be more effective to provide evidence based education and allow them to make informed decisions based on what they know.
I really enjoyed your presentation and all of the information you provided on the importance of regulating social media access as a way to protect mental health. I think that as technology and the social media progresses and grows, this continues to be such an important issue that has an affect on not only children, but everyone with access to social media. I like how you mentioned how especially in adolescents, the stage that they are in is where they are the most vulnerable and begin to compare themselves to other people and feel the negative effects of social media. Like you said, the age requirement to sign up for most social media platforms does not account for these vulnerable ages and stages of adolescence. I agree that there should be a more reliable age verification system, and that this is an issue that should be more focused on and advocated for. Amazing work!
Your presentation rases a big point on issues related to youth and their use of social media. I feel because most adults use social media on a daily bases in a positive manner it is easy to forget how it can be negative let alone be a negative for youth. The way you have gathered all this information on the harm of social media for youth really helps to understand the dangers that can be hidden within these apps and can help parents to make more informed decisions on how to address their child use of social media. This presentation was very informative and an issue that is not talked about enough.
