Marketing is a company’s strategy to promote its goal, whether that is buying or selling goods or services. Promotions and advertisements are the most common forms of marketing that are done, however there are other tasks that a professional in marketing may be assigned to do. You may find yourself eating lunch with a client or meeting a colleague for coffee to discuss strategies, not all the career is spent at a desk in an office. Marketing is a great career to get involved with if you are a social person who is up to date with current trends and wants to be in a career that requires collaboration.

There are often noted to be four P’s of marketing, these are known as Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Product and Price are self-explanatory, this is the item or service that you are looking to market and price is what you are looking to gain from the exchange of goods, usually a monetary value. Place is important as it refers to the distribution of goods and services. Products can be sold through third party retailers, online, wholesale, over the phone and through many other distribution channels. Finding the channel that makes the most sense for a product falls under the overall marketing plan. The last P is the most well known, this is promotion. Promotion is what is often thought of when considering what a professional in marketing does for a living. Creating advertisements to gain attention for a product or service is the most crucial part of a marketing campaign.

Marketing is able to gain audience attention and create long lasting brand recognition that is vital to a brands success. Companies are not able to reach the levels of success that large corporations have without having a successful marketing team. It is evident why this job market is surging in popularity in the new digital age. Marketing as a college major would be a great option for anybody looking for success in the business world.
