From runways to the streets of New York, to Milan or Paris, there’s a deep appetite for burgundy. “The appetite for deep rouges is omnipresent. Google reported that interest in maroon is at a five-year high, while searches for burgundy are up 666 percent on the global shopping platform, Lyst.” From clothing and accessories to multiple beauty trends of nail art and lipstick, it is unavoidable.

In multiple cultures, red holds a great deal of importance. Across multiple cultures, red symbolizes power, strength, and fertility. When one wears red, they command attention, emanate confidence and beauty. Burgundy, while more subdued than a classic bright red, carries the same energy but in a more refined manner. “In many cultures, dark reds are associated with pomp, circumstance, and displays of power.” Red demands to be noticed and seen. Whether it be a red lip or a red accessory, it brightens up one’s outfit instantly. “This burgundy or Bordeaux, to use the currently favored name for the hue — is cool. It speaks not of flame or flowers, but rather of blood and pomegranates.” The shade is a perfect balance between being bold and timelessness. It is often incorporated as a statement peace to portray effortless chic.

Fall is experiencing a transition of color that is knocking down traditional use. Burgundy transcended and made its way into high fashion. On the runways of iconic houses such as Gucci, Hermès, and Tom Ford, burgundy leather—both real and faux—dominated collections, appearing in tailored skirts, bra tops, and nostalgic suiting. Burgundy’s increased popularity this autumn confirms its standing as the season’s must-have color. Elegant, flexible, and just bold enough to stand out, it’s a color that will take you through the fall and beyond, with a timeless appeal and contemporary edge.
