Sabrina Carpenter’s Madonna Moment

Sabrina Carpenter has been taking over the music industry in 2024 with consistent hits being all over social media. Her fashion and style choices have also brought her a lot of attention this year but especially at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards when Sabrina Carpenter wore a vintage gown from Madonna’s closet.
The white dress has a deep sweetheart neckline and is encrusted with pearls, jewels, and sequins. The dress was designed by Bob Mackie and was worn by Madonna at the 1991 Oscars. Madonna was alongside Michael Jackson at the Oscar’s and performed her popular song “Sooner or Later.” Previously, Madonna had worn a similar dress for a Vanity Fair cover shoot with photographer Steven Meisel. She then requested a similar version to the dress, which is the gown that the world saw at the 1991 Academy Awards.
Madonna herself had worn the dress to capture the essence of Old Hollywood and wore the gown as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. This goes to show the power of expression through fashion as celebrities often salute their heritage, role models, or other celebrities at various read carpet events.
Sabrina accessorized the dress with dangly earrings, rings, and a long dangly necklace. Carpenter wore a bright red lipstick and blonde curled hair to recreate the makeup of Madonna at the Oscars. Carpenter performed later that evening and won Song of the Year ‘Espresso’.
Sabrina Carpenter was originally known as an actress due to her role in “Girl Meets World,” a Disney channel show. She later went on to making music and releasing music videos. Carpenter got brought into the spotlight with her song ‘Skin’ which people speculated was a response to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘driver’s license’ and her relationship with Joshua Bassett. Carpenter did face a set back and personal struggles due to the drama, but she grew a strong fanbase with her continuing music releases.
Sabrina Carpenter has also been named as Redken’s first ever Global ambassador. Redken is a Loreal owned haircare brand which is Carpenter’s first beauty partnership. This role is fitting for Carpenter, because she is known for her blonde blowouts and bouncy curls.
Her general aesthetic is classic, preppy, and polished with her fashion pieces being a mix of modern and vintage. She gives off ultra-feminine energy with her iconic concert stage outfits. Child actress Sabrina Carpenter has become a new and rising pop star, taking the Song of the Year award at the 2024 MTV VMAs and charming the audience with her Madonna-inspired look.
