As the 2024-25 school year began, the Cognitech AI Club successfully had its first meeting of the school year on September 6th, 2024. The meeting received praise and excitement for the future of the young club, with attendance from different class years, education disciplines, and experience levels with artificial intelligence. This meeting followed a strong showing at the involvement fair, where new students received their first impressions of the organization, hearing why learning more about this critical technology would prepare them for the future.

In the first meeting of the new school year, the executive board had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the new members of the club. It also allowed new E-board members to share their experiences with AI and passion for the club. Following this, the President, Sander Dawson, reviewed some of the improvements in artificial intelligence over the summer, including ChatGPT 4o, improvements to Dall-E, artificial intelligence that can create images from text, and the usage of AI in diagnosing lung cancer. The meeting ended with a short lesson in prompting, teaching attendees how to make the most of generative AI, such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.
The Cognitech AI Club was founded in November of 2023 to educate the community on the advancements and uses of artificial intelligence. Starting the club required garnering support from students, professors, administrators, and alumni to ensure a club with unique opportunities for all students, no matter their graduation year, major, or experience with AI. The support of the Cognitech AI Club was apparent immediately, as students flocked to hear alumni working at companies including American Express and Bloomberg, and fellow classmates, present the uses of AI in their specific fields. The dedication from the E-board of the club and the excitement from fellow members have led to staggering growth for the organization, which is now approaching 150 active members.

The AI club has planned many unique experiences with the new year in mind. The club hopes to have more collaboration events with other organizations on campus, such as Consult Your Community and Hall Street Fund. The club is also looking to create a “hackathon” event, where students from Seton Hall will compete against those from Indiana University Bloomington to develop artificial intelligence solutions for a biotechnology company. As a club that has focused on its status as an interdisciplinary organization, the AI club also plans to hold a panel on the improvements of AI in the fields of science, research, and medicine. Finally, the club aims to focus on workshops to teach people how to use AI to their advantage. The organization has already been shown considerable support throughout this journey, and the president of the Cognitech AI Club, Sander Dawson, is excited to continue that journey. “As a club, we are relentlessly pushing the bounds of what great minds can do, as one of the fastest-growing clubs on campus. The future is contingent on support from faculty and students alike, and an upkeep in momentum”.
