Abstract: The focus of this talk will be on the challenges that a typical high school teacher in NJ faced when covid caused a lockdown in early 2020. For all teachers, the learning curve was steep. Covid would not only impact the latter part of the 2019-2020 school year but change how schools approached the 2020-2021 school year. During this presentation, the speaker will share how teachers coped with the sudden lockdown in March, 2020 as well as the transition to remote learning in September, 2020. What the hybrid model looked like in her district and how it was modified over the course of the 2020-2021 school year will be discussed. As a teacher of mathematics, it was essential to find effective ways to help students learn and master skills necessary for future courses. The various approaches and strategies used for math instruction during this period will be shared. The speaker will share concerns regarding the impact the period from March, 2020 to June, 2022 will have in terms of the students we will be teaching mathematics. In addition, the speaker will share some ideas for how to move forward and help students develop not only study skills but life skills.
