Robert Richard Randall founded Sailor’s Snug Harbor as a “haven for aged, decrepit and worn out sailors” in 1801. Today it stands as a beautiful botanical garden with a collection of architecturally significant 19th-century buildings set in an 83-acre park along the north shore of Staten Island.
