Academic Research Positions (3) (Singapore)

3 year contracts, renewable

The Center on Asia and Globalisation (CAG), a premier research institution of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) at the National University of Singapore, invites applications for three appointments at the levels of Senior Research Fellow*; Research Fellow*. Each of the appointments will initially be for three years (with the opportunity for renewal). Each of the appointments presents researchers with the opportunity to become faculty within the Lee Kuan Yew School in addition to their core research position at CAG.

Candidates applying for the Senior Research Fellow require:

  • A Ph.D degree in the social sciences and/or humanities that is relevant to CAG’s research interests (see below)
  • A track record of research excellence demonstrated by peer reviewed contributions to highly ranked academic journals and book publishers in areas falling within or relevant to CAG’s research interests (see below)
  • An ability to engage with policy and research communities in Asia and around the world
  • A strong and demonstrated sense of academic collegiality and, ideally, research leadership
  • Language skills in addition to English are preferred but not compulsory

*Only candidates with an excellent record of teaching and scholarship can also be considered for a non-tenured faculty appointment with LKYSPP.

  • A Ph.D degree in the social sciences and/or humanities that is relevant to CAG’s research interests (see below)
  • A track record of research excellence demonstrated by peer reviewed academic publications within or relevant to CAG’s research interests (see below)
  • An ability to engage with policy and research communities in Asia and around the world
  • A strong and demonstrated sense of academic independence and collegiality
  • Language skills in addition to English are preferred but not compulsory

*Only candidates with an excellent record of teaching and scholarship can also be considered for a non-tenured faculty appointment (with an option of applying for a tenure-track or tenured position later on) at LKYSPP.

We invite applications from the candidates with expertise in the following areas in which CAG has research interests:

  1. International Law, International Maritime Law (South China Sea)

All aspects of international law/maritime law that pertain to regional (Asian) points of contention/conflict. A demonstrated interest in/working knowledge of the South China Sea issue is a strong advantage for this position.

2. Asian Political Economy

All aspects of the political economy of Asia, including but not limited to: understanding the political economy of institutional and other reform agendas of the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the OECD, bilateral development organisations and export-credit agencies in the region; the broader political economy of globalisation and its impact upon/implications for Asia. Expertise in China, South Asia and/or Southeast Asia is an advantage for this position.

3. Public goods issues and global governance

All aspects of ‘public good’ issues and global governance as they pertain to Asia  – with specific foci on energy, water, the environment, food and health; policies and approaches of state and non-state players towards these issues; implications of the public goods and global governance agendas for peace and development in the region. Expertise in China, South Asia and/or Southeast Asia is an advantage for this position.
