Q: What are some of the important events during the academic year?

A: There are several events that are of special interest to faculty:
Faculty Convocation – The University’s annual kickoff to the new academic year, where new faculty members are introduced and those who received promotion and/or tenure the prior year are recognized. The ceremony is followed by dinner and a chance to get to know your new colleagues. This year Convocation will be on Sept. 8th.

Charter Day – In the spring each year, this event commemorates the awarding of the University’s original charter in 1861. At this event each year the recipient of the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service is recognized, as are students who have engaged in meritorious service on behalf of the University community.

Graduate Hooding Ceremonies – Each school holds its own graduate program commencement on the Saturday prior to undergraduate commencement.

Undergraduate Award Ceremony – Students across the university are recognized for their academic achievements; this event is held the Sunday prior to undergraduate commencement.

Commencement – The University’s annual graduation ceremony, typically in mind-May, is a time to celebrate our students’ achievements. This year’s ceremony was held at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel.
