Project Write to Learn (PWTL): Preparation of Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists to Improve Written Expression in Children with Specific Learning Disabilities was a federally funded personnel training grant from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), U.S. Department of Education, (Grant #: H235K170064). The opinions expressed on this website are those of the authors and do not represent the views of the OSEP or the U.S. Department of Education.

PWTL provided program scholars who were graduate students in Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech Language Pathology (SLP) a yearlong interprofessional education and practice experience that involved shared coursework, group assignments, and coordinated clinical experiences.

    • PWTL spanned five years from October 2017 to September 2022
    • 40 program scholars completed PWTL (20 OT & 20 SLP)
    • The total grant award was $1,230,342.00 of which 65% of funds went to program scholars in tuition and stipend
    • Program scholars have a service obligation to work in settings with students who have Individualized Education Plans

PWTL was an interprofessional education and practice course for OT and SLP program scholars that was co-taught by OT/SLP faculty, to meet competencies developed for the project. The PWTL course served as a “zipper” curriculum, that is to say, this course connected knowledge and skills gained in respective programs toward a common goal of supporting schoolchildren with writing.
