PRIMARY MAJOR IN ENGLISH
(for students in The Honors Program who declared their primary major in English prior to Fall 2024)
(33 credits)

All students who pass HONS 1101 and HONS1102 receive credit for ENGL 1201 and ENGL 1202

English majors who pass HONS 2105 receive credit for ENGL 2205 Literary Genres and Precedents, which counts for a Thematic/Comparative category Advanced Elective in English

Otherwise, they have to fulfill all the regular requirements for the major.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND MAJOR
(for students in the Honors Program who declared a second major in English prior to Fall 2024)
(30 credits)

All students who pass HONS 1101 and HONS 1102 receive credit for ENGL 1201 and ENGL 1202

Honors Program Students with English as their SECOND major who pass HONS 1102 fulfill the requirement for one British Literature survey (ENGL 2111 British Literature I OR ENGL 2112 British Literature II, based on whichever one they do NOT take)

Students with English as their SECOND major who pass HONS 2103 fulfill the requirement for one American Literature survey (ENGL 2103 American Literature I OR ENGL 2104 American Literature II based on whichever one they do NOT take)

In addition to the 6 credits above (one American literature survey and one British literature survey), Honors students with English as a second major must take the following 24 credits:

Introductory (3 credits)

  • ENGL 2204 Introduction to Literary Study

Surveys (6 credits)

  • ENGL 2103 American Literature I OR ENGL 2104 American Literature II AND
  • ENGL 2111 British Literature I OR ENGL 2112 British Literature II

Advanced Electives (15 credits)

  • Five Advanced Electives (15 credits), one each from the 5 categories below OR
  • ENGL 5011 Senior Seminar (3 credits) AND 4 Advanced Electives (12 credits) from 4 of the 5 categories below:
