Study Abroad: A Summer Course in Rome, Italy

ELMP 8801 INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES FOR ADMINISTRATORS: ISSUES AND THEORIES – The need for general educational backgrounds of present and future educational administrators is emphasized in this course. Insights into the arts, economics, sociology and curriculum with implications for P-20 educational administration and supervision will also be addressed. Candidates will explore national and international issues within the P-20 arena as Dr. Christopher Tienken leads the course and candidates with professors, teachers, and school administrators from the European Union. School visitations within Rome will also take place to provide context for some of the European Union P-20 issues discussed during the course.

The course will include a weekend orientation portion in late May/early June and finish in Rome, Italy. Tentative dates for the course in Rome are June 26 – July 2. Candidates would have to arrive no later than June 25 and stay until July 3. Rough estimate of costs: Lodging $150/day ($1200) and flight $1,600, plus tuition. Last year’s course received an off-campus discount of 25%. (This has yet to be determined for this course.) Lodging can be cheaper if students use double occupancy. The course will require the completion of a case study paper (due July 20). If you are interested in learning more about this summer opportunity, please contact Dr. Tienken at christopher.tienken@shu.edu.
