January 2015: Changing Academic Profession in China Colloquium Presentation

On November 24, Visiting Scholar Dr. Hong Liu presented a colloquium focused on the changing academic profession in China. Dr. Liu provided a portrait of the large cohort of PhDs who entered faculty positions in China’s top universities over the past decade, including their educational background and the early career challenges they are facing.

In addition, Dr. Liu presented the revolution of faculty personnel policies, including recruitment, hiring processes, promotion, and career development for China’s new academic generation.

Dr. Liu is Associate Professor in the Academy of Higher Education Studies, Central South University in Changsha, Hunan Providence, PRC. Dr. Liu served as a Visiting Scholar in the ELMP Department where she systematically reviewed global research on the academic profession and focused her time on assembling existing survey data and institutional policy documents on juion faculty at the 985 universities in China.
