The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to build a knowledge base about consumers’ personal health information management needs and practices and related design principles. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate how their proposed projects will lead to a better understanding of user needs and how their findings will impact consumer health IT design. Applications must clearly address at least one of the five following research areas:

  • The needs and preferences of diverse user groups in different contexts
  • User goals, activities and personal health information management practices
  • User capacities (such as cognitive, physical, health literacy)
  • User motivation
  • “Expert” user groups (such as frequent health care consumers and their caregivers) and studying them as models.

Grants under this FOA will not exceed $500,000 per year for up to five years. Applications are due February 5, June 5 and October 5. For more information, see the link below:
