NCEEER’s Title VII grants provide a maximum of $3,000 to support research relevant to U.S. policy towards the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Balkans. Policy relevance is a broad definition that can include projects in history, popular culture and other fields outside the immediate purview of U.S. government officials. Countries eligible for research funding are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Grants may be used for the following purposes:

  • Travel to the selected countries to access research resources
  • Refresher visits for already established research work
  • Research planning with colleagues from the selected regions
  • Creation of databases or research aids
  • On an exceptional basis, inviting scholars from the selected regions to the United States for conferences or special collaborative projects
