This joint National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Aging initiative seeks research on the economic and health-related factors that influence older persons’ decisions as they near retirement age and throughout the later stages of life. Potential topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • The effects of financial disruption on retirement preparedness and planning
  • Family and household decision making
  • Cross-national comparisons of retirement behavior
  • Macroeconomic effects of changes in retirement behavior
  • Time use and life satisfaction in retirement
  • Alternatives to full-time paid employment
  • The interaction of retirement, health, cognition and functioning

Award amounts are not limited, but should reflect the actual needs of the project. Awards do not exceed five years in length. Applications are due February 5, June 5 and October 5, 2013. For more information, see the link below:
