The National Science Foundation’s DEL program supports projects that use information technology to build computational infrastructure to preserve and research endangered languages. Proposals should focus in one or more of the following three areas:

  • Language Description – Documenting the language through audio, video, transcriptions, text samples and databases
  • Infrastructure – Digitizing and preserving access to documentary materials or creating new infrastructure such as conferences and workshops
  • Computational Methods – Developing standards and databases to make documenting languages easier or developing computational tools for endangered languages

The program offers one to three year grants (ranging from $12,000-$150,000 per year) or six to twelve month fellowships at $4,200 per month. Proposals are due annually on September 15. For more information, see the link below:
