Unidentified Sister and boy, St. Paul’s Orphanage Unidentified Sister and boy, St. Paul’s Orphanage, Crafton, Pennsylvania: Photograph (5 x 7). The Sisters of Mercy operated St. Paul’s Orphanage in Pittsburgh from 1846 until its closing in 1965.
The Habit that the sister’s have on reminds me of the one that the Franciscan’s use to wear many years ago. I worked in Mercy Hospital with the Sister’s of Mercy for many years, their work and attitude toward the poor and homeless and of course the sick is a wonderful thing to have been a part of. Their lesson of give to less fortunate was and is always a message that they pass on. God Bless the Sisters for the work that they continue to do.
