Alternative Forms of Assessment
The workshop will proceed from the following question: What is the purpose of assessment and how do you use it throughout your class and course?
Debra Zinicola will focus on the development and refinement of a rubric. What can we learn from an assessment tool like this? When does it work and when might you need a modified version?
Lauren McFadden will focus on formative assessment throughout a class period, checking for understanding, to inform next steps in teaching on the spot and in the future. The Plickers app will be shared as an example of how she regularly checks on the readiness of her students to move forward within a class period.
Grace May will focus on knowing your students and creating assessments that respect both the content and the learners.
