The Leadership Development Honors Program Class of 2019 was fortunate enough to meet with Dave Maurer, Executive Vice President of GBX Consultant Inc., on Thursday, September 24th, to kick off the newly developed Speaker Series Initiative. The purpose of this initiative, founded by Leadership Junior, Luciano Cundari, is to “provide Leadership students opportunities to translate theory and concepts into business realities by exposing them to senior executives who will share their life’s learnings and experiences in informal dialogue sessions.” The freshmen received a very insightful presentation, entitled “20 Points for Success in the Workplace,” in which Mr. Maurer shared many anecdotes and tips that he learned throughout his impressive twenty-two year military career and different corporate leadership experiences.

After stressing the importance of different leadership characteristics, such as “personal accountability” and “discipline,” the Leadership team obtained valuable advice pertaining to the principles all leaders should abide by. Mario Damasceno, a member of the freshman team, described Maurer’s presentation as “intuitive and applicable” towards his career objectives. The class agreed: the presentation will be  very beneficial to their professional and personal futures. Bill Hemmer added, “I left the presentation with the confidence I need to better myself and leadership skills.” The positive feedback from the students is abundant, and the team of 2019 hopes to cross paths with Mr. Maurer again in the near future.
