“If Only for a Moment…”

To:  The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning

Erika Anderson, in her Forbes article, Passionate Leaders Aren’t Loud – They’re Deep, shares her five indicators that a leader has true passion:

  • Commits honestly– Passionate leaders genuinely believe in what they espouse. People are touched and engaged by the genuineness of their passion.
  • Makes a clear case without being dogmatic– They convey the power of their belief without dismissing or belittling others’ points of view.
  • Invites real dialogue about their passion– Their passion is balanced with openness: they want to hear and integrate others’ points of view.
  • Acts in support of their passion– They walk their talk: their day-to-day behaviors support their beliefs.
  • Stays committed despite adversity and setbacks– Their commitment isn’t flimsy; when difficulties arise, they hold to their principles and find a way forward.

Real passion evokes inspiration in those they serve – an inspiration to follow, believe in a great purpose, give all one has in accomplishing something.  Those who follow want more than shallow words.  They shout the words of Frederick Douglas, social reformer and writer:  “For it’s not light that is needed, but fire; it’s not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind and the earthquake in our hearts.”

It is the leader’s passion, excitement and commitment to a shared purpose that moves people and organizations to achieve dreams undreamed.  Let your passion be the fire that lights others.  As John Wesley wrote: “Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from mile to watch you burn.” Burn brightly with fire and passion.  Inspire the world and people you touch.

Have a beautiful day and a magnificent week!!

Mike
