New Global UNHCR Campaign<\/strong>
\nUNHCR announced a new global campaign<\/a> calling on people all over the world to cover the distance traveled by refugees each year. The 2 Billion Kilometres to Safety campaign invites people to act in solidarity and run, walk or cycle to achieve a cumulative total of two billion kilometres. Participants can use their fitness apps or the campaign website \u2013 www.stepwithrefugees.org<\/a>\u2013 to log the kilometres and contribute to a global total.

UN Democracy Fund Call for Project Proposals: Deadline 18 January<\/strong>
\nThe UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF)<\/a> supports two-year projects that empower civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. The large majority of UNDEF funds go to local civil society organizations. Over the past 12 years, UNDEF has supported more than 780 projects in over 120 countries at a total amount of almost US$190 million. UNDEF provides grants of up to US$300,000 per project.

World Bank \/ Financial Times Blog Competition<\/strong>
\n“How Would You Reimagine Education?”
\nHigh school students around the world between the ages of 16-19 are asked to submit a short blog post on what could help better prepare them for the future. Youth will be most affected by the changing nature of jobs and skills and we believe they will have some interesting ideas about the opportunities that technology can provide them. Please share this with your networks so that we may hear from young people on their ideas on how to re-imagine education.

Lives Cut Short: Seeking Refuge During the Holocaust<\/strong>
\nOn display starting 18 January 2019<\/em>
\nThrough the story of young Holocaust victim, Ruth Maier, this exhibition portrays the broader history of the Jewish refugees\u2019 search for safety during the Holocaust. It shows the courage and desperate choices Jewish parents made to keep their children alive. Ruth\u2019s diaries and writings provide a searing testimony of creative promise destroyed through the actions of the Nazis and their collaborators and supporters.<\/p>\n

This exhibit is organized by the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance and the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies with the support of the Permanent Missions of Austria and Norway to the United Nations.<\/p>\n

\nThe 2018 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons<\/a> is the fourth of its kind mandated by the General Assembly through the 2010 United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. It covers 142 countries and provides an overview of patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at global, regional and national levels, based primarily on trafficking cases detected between 2014 and 2016. As UNODC has been systematically collecting data on trafficking in persons for more than a decade, trend information is presented for a broad range of indicators.
