Founded in 1991 five years after the Chernobyl disaster, CCI has provided 100€ million in aid to the Chernobyl regions of Belarus, Ukraine, and Western Russia. CCI has saved thousands of lives through cardiac surgeries, the first-ever baby hospice center in Belarus, various medical programs, and a de-institutionalization adoption program for children confined to bleak state facilities. Through CCI, families in Ireland have hosted over 25,000 children for brief vacations. The ability to escape their toxic environment for a mere few weeks extends each child’s life by two years and reduces their contamination levels by 30 to 50 percent. Chernobyl continues to plague millions, but by alleviating the suffering of these abandoned children CCI restores the hope of current and future generations. She will succeed Ahmad Alhendawi of Jordan to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his dedicated service in addressing the needs and rights of young people, bringing the work of the United Nations closer to them. The success of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development depends on empowering young people as rights-holders, agents of change and torchbearers. We stayed with the Embera Quera Indigenous tribe in Panama and learned, as

best as one could, what it means to live sustainably. Also in Panama, we met with the

UNDP regional office, which shared how the SDGs are being implemented in Latin

America. On board the ship, we hosted a Peace Forum with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

in El Salvador. As a youth scholar for the SDGs, I was invited to present on the SDGs that I

closely resonated with, ran workshops on Social Enterprise and Design Thinking, as it

is related to promoting the SDGs. The experience complemented my recent completion of a

Master’s degree in Food Studies and Social Entrepreneurship. This truly emphasizes the

importance and autonomy that is given to youth as part of this program, which I am eternally grateful for”. – Earlene Cruz, SERVAS Youth representative to DPI

The list of participating programmes

DPI/NGO news made available through the Center for UN and Global Governance Studies, Seton Hall University.

Friday, 21 July 2017 2017 Many Languages, One World Global Youth Forum Presentations of Action Plans on the Sustainable Development Goals, the event created and…

Continue ReadingSummer UN Events

[18
279,296,285,295,24
post-2555","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blogposts","tag-shu_un_studies","tag-unshu","tag-shudiplomacy","tag-undpingo","tag-un","entry
["GET
