Call for Applications: 2018 Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent
The Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent provides the participants with an intensive learning opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United Nations human rights system, instruments and mechanisms, with a focus on issues of particular relevance to people of African descent.
The Fellowship Programme will allow the participants to better contribute to the protection and promotion of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of people of African descent in their respective countries.
In the framework of the Programme of Activities for the Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent, this year the Fellowship will be held from 19 November to 7 December 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland.

To mark the upcoming anniversary of the 1948 War and the Nakba, the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene on 17 and 18 May the two-day United Nations Forum on the Question of Palestine “70 Years after 1948 – Lessons to Achieve a Sustainable Peace” at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Global citizenship education aims to empower learners to meet global challenges and become proactive contributors to a more just, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable world. While the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be an underlying concern of the discussion, this year brings the seventieth anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and the significance of global citizenship education for the promotion and protection as well as the exercise of human rights will also be addressed at the conference.

Interactive hearing and General Assembly high-level meeting on the fight to end TB
Venue: United Nations Headquarters, (UN Plaza) New York, United States
The United Nations General Assembly will hold a high-level meeting on the fight to end tuberculosis on 26 September 2018 in New York with the overall theme “United to end tuberculosis: an urgent global response to a global epidemic”. An interactive hearing will be convened by the President of the General Assembly on 4 June 2018, in New York, as part of the preparatory process for the high-level meeting.
Accreditation is now open until 27 April 2018 for relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector with expertise in tuberculosis to attend the high-level meeting and participate in the interactive civil society hearing.
Non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC do not need to apply at this stage.
Please note that once the accreditation process is finalized, each participant will need to register separately to attend the interactive civil society hearing and the high-level meeting. Separate registration forms for both events will be opened in due course.
